American Flyer Accused of Assaulting Crew Member on New York-Bound Flight

A 28-year-old flyer is facing a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew, on accusations of assaulting a flight attendant over garbage. The passenger allegedly claimed “Cops aren’t going to do anything to me,” as she wreaked havoc on a flight bound for New York City.

A passenger from an American Airlines flight on Sunday, May 2, 2021, is facing a charge of interfering with a flight crew, after witnesses say she assaulted a crewmember over garbage in the aisle. NBC New York reports 28-year-old Chenasia Campbell was arraigned in federal court on Monday, May 3, 2021, on the allegations of fighting with and injuring the flight attendant.

“Cops Aren’t Going to do Anything to Me”

The incident happened aboard an American flight departing Miami International Airport (MIA) for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. Somewhere during the flight, Campbell allegedly became agitated over the fact that a flight attendant did not pick up her garbage from the aisle.

Things escalated to the point where Campbell allegedly assaulted a flight attendant, knocking them to the floor and hitting her several times. During the fight, the flyer reported screamed “Cops aren’t going to do anything to me,” as the fight continued.

During the scuffle, another flight attendant attempted to intervene and separate the two. An off-duty New York Police Department officer was also on the flight and was able to restrain the passenger for the remainder of the flight. Once the aircraft landed, Campbell was taken into custody.

After a hearing in federal court, Campbell was ordered to be released on $15,000 bail, with restrictions on her travel. A public defender representing the traveler says the passenger is in a state-run mental health program.

Fight Marks Second Assault for American at Miami

The in-flight alleged attack marks the second time American flyers were involved in a physical altercation coming out of Miami International Airport. On April 25, 2021, a group of passengers were caught on camera assaulting other flyers over standby seats on a flight. At least one member of the assaulting party was arrested for their part in the brawl.

Who would do this kind of thing? Must be from a different culture...no photos?

Once security cameras are implemented on flights, there will be no mystery as to why...

Sounds like, besides "inference with flight crew", she deserves "assault" tacked on, too. I bet the FA was glad there was a cop on the flight.
