American CEO Wants to “Turn AAdvantage Miles into Bitcoin”
Ryan Boyd

American Airlines CEO Doug Parker said a recent event held at Southern Methodist University that mileage runs hurt American’s bottom line, and that the carrier made the right move in changing award miles to favor price paid instead of distance flown.

“All of our customers are valuable, but those who pay us the most are the most valuable […] ,” Parker said. “We’d like to turn AAdvantage miles into Bitcoin so that everything that you buy is with AAdvantage miles.”

Haha totally doesn’t know what Bitcoin is, he might as well have said:

“AA Miles should work like Bitcoin so your clothes come out smelling fresh everytime and it turns itself off whenever you leave the house” 😉

AA is the last of the US3 to join in rewarding fare price over mileage flown. Problem is that now that business travelers are forced to look at fare paid and the customer service experience AA is seriously lacking. Combine that with the inability to redeem those miles I only fly them when I absolutely have to.

Twice (that I am aware of) I have had FA working the premium cabin on their first flight. I ask what other business can put their newest employees dealing with their best customer? Whether most loyal through upgrades or paid premium. I have a relative who is a FA and asked her why/how this could happen. Response: First class passengers are divas. AA has a serious customer service issues.
