American Airlines Website Adds 3 Airlines to Online Search Engine
American Airlines runs a rather nice award search engine. You can look for mileage redemptions a month at a time without having to log in or spending much time on a search. The problem is that not all partner airlines are displayed on AA.com.
It will come as a relief to know that three more oneworld airlines have been added to AA’s online search engine: Air Tahiti Nui, SriLankan Airlines and Qatar Airways.
Air Tahiti Nui
In the past, you had to call American to book award seats on Air Tahiti Nui in the hopes of finding space. Unless you subscribe to the ExpertFlyer service, finding an available seat on the French airline based in Tahiti could eat up a lot of your time, and booking one could take even longer, depending on a phone agent’s experience.
Business-class award space is still scarce but not nonexistent. A one-way flight in the premium cabin from the United States will set you back 80,000 AAdvantage miles.
Searching for those hard-to-find award seats to paradise is so much easier now that they show up online. Just remember that it’s also become easier for other AAdvantage members, so you gotta nab those seats as soon as possible.
SriLankan Airlines
The largest airline of Sri Lanka is now bookable on AA’s website as well. If you find yourself in this island nation south of India, you might as well take a trip to the Maldives. Why not? You’re so close!
An hour-and-a-half flight from Colombo to the tropical island will cost you 17,5000 miles in economy and 30,000 miles in business class, and there’s tons of availability.
Qatar Airways
Of the three carriers added to the online search, the world-class Qatar Airways is likely the most popular choice among travelers. Although the airline shows up when you search for space on British Airways, their search engine isn’t particularly user-friendly and you have to search one day at a time, which can take a while. Looking on AA will save you lots of time.
You can fly from the U.S. to Johannesburg in business class, which isn’t an easy trip, will set you back 75,000 miles each way. But again, keep in mind that you’re not the only one looking to book these awards.
AA has added two -- not three -- oneworld airlines to the aa.com award-search engine. (Air Tahiti Nui is one of AA's non-oneworld partners.)
"American Airlines runs a rather nice award search engine." While it has improved, it is the worst award search engine of any airline I ever had a mileage balance with.
Hmm. More competition it seems. Happy Hunting!
