American Airlines Increases The Price of Alcohol

American Airlines Increases The Price of Alcohol
Meg Butler

Prepare your drink budgets: The price of alcohol is going up, by $1 across the board, on October 1st. @TheForwardCabin was the first to break the news:

According to One Mile at a Time, American Airlines says that the price creases will “help continue the investment” they’ve made in “more craft beer choices, premium liquor and new wines onboard.”

The price increase comes on the heels of free alcohol in Main Cabin Extra prompting many FlyerTalkers to wonder if economy is paying the price for MCE’s upgrade.

This price increase, of course, doesn’t effect drinks that are free. American Airlines flights to and from Europe, Asia, select destinations in Latin American and flights between Dallas and Hawaii will still enjoy free beer and wine.

Beer, wine and spirits will remain free on flights to and from Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, and Auckland.

This is why I bring in the miniature liquor bottles with me when I fly. (As long as they can fit in the 3-1-1 bag, TSA is ok with it). For these prices, I can bring on board top shelf liquor for less than what the airline wants to charge, and just pour it in my soda.
