American Airlines Debuts a New Plane With Zero Fanfare

American Airlines Debuts a New Plane With Zero Fanfare
Scott Dylan

American Airlines just made a pretty big under-the-radar move. The carrier rolled out its new A321neo aircraft on a flight between Phoenix and Orlando without making much of a fuss. Don’t worry if you missed the debut flight. There will be plenty of opportunities to try out the new planes due to the fact that American Airlines has ordered 100 of them. The new planes will be added on several existing routes pretty soon.

We know that American Airlines plans to use its new A321neo planes for longer domestic routes. It will be used for flights from Phoenix to Hawaii and Anchorage by some point during the upcoming summer. We also know that flights from Dallas to Anchorage will be flown using this plane by the end of summer. Some of the other routes that are in the mix for the A321neo include Los Angeles to Phoenix, Phoenix to Orlando, Orlando to Los Angeles, Los Angeles to Orlando, Orlando to Phoenix and Phoenix to Los Angeles.

What does the new A321neo aircraft from American Airlines have to offer?

The planes are pretty impressive even though American apparently doesn’t think enough of them to create any fanfare surrounding the model’s launch. Seats on the new planes come with free wireless entertainment that can be streamed using your own device. One bright spot is the high-speed Wi-Fi that’s available from gate to gate. There’s also a special seat-back holder that can fit your tablet or phone. American claims that it worked tirelessly with Airbus to design the interior of the new A321neo with passenger comfort as a priority. You might be happy to hear that the new planes come with larger overhead luggage bins and some extra room for carry-on bags. Of course, you’ll still have to pay extra if you want more legroom.

The planes are designed with 47 extra-legroom Main Cabin Extra seats. That’s the highest number of extra-legroom seats available on any domestic plane flown by American Airlines. Keep in mind that Main Cabin Extra seats start at $20 extra. However, you can grab one of these seats for free if you have AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro or Platinum status. Travelers with Oneworld Sapphire status and Oneworld Emerald status can also grab these seats for no extra charge. The rest of the plane will be comprised of 20 seats in First Class and 176 seats in Main Cabin. Each new A321neo that’s being flown by American Airlines has 196 seats in total.

Understandable, a European Aircraft is not something an American company wants to brag about in the current political climat..
