American Airlines Begins Offering Live TV

In an apparent effort to join the late 20th century, American Airlines has begun offering live television access aboard its long-haul flights via satellite access with Gogo’s 2Ku, which will give flyers access to channels like CNN and NBC.

This service will be rolled out to over 700 of American Airlines’ narrowbody aircraft through 2019, and the live broadcasts will be able to be streamed directly through passengers’ mobile devices.

When I managed the international F/A base at DFW (late 80s) we could show local TV stations while on the ground. It was helpful when an overnight long haul 767-300 or DC-10-30 trip was delayed due to WX or a mechanical. Customers appeared to enjoy Wheel of Fortune the most which aired about the time of the second London trip.

It's unclear if the complete list of channels is going to be any different from their domestic channel list, which is: https://www.dish.com/dig/news/watch-live-tv-on-american-airlines-flights/?utm_source=Direct
