Alitalia Files for Bankruptcy Protection in US Court

Embattled Italian airline Alitalia has filed for bankruptcy protection in a United States court in an apparent effort to protect its American assets as the carrier goes on the market for sale in Italy. Bankruptcy judge Sean Lane granted Alitalia a restraining order valid until June 23, and the order will automatically extend to June 26 unless Alitalia’s creditors object.
