Alaska’s Flag Carrier Has a New Look
Alaska Airlines unveiled a new logo and an update to the design seen on the tails of its aircraft fleet. Sangita Woerner, the carrier’s vice president of marketing, said that as the company has been successfully expanding, it needed a new brand identity that was fresh and modern.
The font and structure of “Alaska Airlines” seen on the side of the aircraft have been streamlined and bolded and changes were made to the well-known Eskimo face, located on the tail. “It’s not a revolution, it’s an evolution, is what our customers told us in focus groups,” said Woerner.

I second what BrandonAB said. From my understanding "Eskimo" is commonly used by indigenous peoples to refer to themselves in Alaska, though the same term is seen as anachronistic in Canada and Greenland.
Aboriginal peoples in Canada and Greenland view "Eskimo" as pejorative, and "Inuit" has become more common. In Alaska, the term "Eskimo" is commonly used to describe Alaska's Yup'ik and Inupiat. "Inuit" is not accepted as a term for the Yup'ik, and "Eskimo" is the only term that includes Yupik, Iñupiat and Inuit. It refer to myself as "Yup'ik Eskimo". Eskimo is not a derogatory term in Alaska, and I am proud to be an Eskimo!
Eskimo face? I thought Eskimo was thought of as a rather derogatory term and the indigenous people of the far North preferred Inuit?
