Airlines for America to Gov’t: No More Emotional Support Animals

In a report to the Department of Transportation, airlines group Airlines for America requested that the federal government reduce the number of animal species allowed to qualify as emotional support animals, leaving only dogs as acceptable service animals.

The report claims that “our member airlines have experienced a disturbing growth in the number of passengers with questionable claims of disability seeking to travel with animals that they suggest are necessary to provide ’emotional support,’ but which are not trained as service animals (or even trained at all to behave in public settings like aircraft or airports).”

It seems more and more passengers are buying fake paperwork and getting these little vests that indicate their pet is an emotional support animal. I saw that one of my neighbors who has a Great Dane, did that so she could declare her dog a emotional support animal and take it on American Airlines from DFW to JFK and back to visit her husband in NYC for a week when he came back from overseas. I feel sorry for her dog as she had to lie on the floor of one of the bulkhead rows. Because of the size of the dog, I wonder if the airline gave her the whole row or if there was someone else seated in that row with this person and her dog? It's only going to get worse folks!

Finally, they are starting to crackdown on so called "emotional support" animals. I can understand some animals are actually emotional support animals, but of course like everything, people always abuse everything to the point it becomes ridiculous.
