Airline Reaches Settlement Concerning Baggage Handlers

Filed in 2015, United Airlines has finally settled a lawsuit concerning work conditions for baggage handlers at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The Department of Labor (DOL) filed the suit following an inspection by their Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) division that alleged baggage handlers for the airline faced “hazardous conditions” while on the job that led to some 620 injuries from 2011-2015. In the settlement, the airline will be installing conveyer belts on passenger jet bridges at the airport.
