Air France’s “Airline for Millenials” Features VR Headsets, “Rooftop Bars” & $50 Fares

With so many European airlines filing for bankruptcy lately (Air Berlin and Alitalia), you might be surprise to hear that there’s going to be a new one! Air France has announced that their new subsidiary, Joon, will take flight on December 1, 2017.

Joon is an airline targeted at millennials and will be a hybrid between a traditional carrier and a Low Cost Carrier (LCC).

For starters, Joon will be flying between Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Barcelona, Spain (BCN), Berlin, Germany (TXL), Lisbon, Portugal (LIS), and Porto, Portugal (OPO). Air France is planning to use Air France pilots and flight attendants for the initial Joon operations.

Since Joon is a hybrid model, there will still be two classes of service onboard: economy class and business class. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided at no cost and there will be in-flight entertainment. Business class passengers on long-haul flights are provided with virtual reality headsets.

Joon will also offer various “lifestyle innovations,” like surprise destinations, “Airbnb experiences,” and is, according to the Press Release, will be more than just an airline: “It’s a fashion brand, a rooftop bar, an entertainment channel, a personal assistant … and Joon does flying too!”

Tickets for initial flights are now available for purchase, and prices aren’t looking too bad! While these tickets will ring in more than on ultra-LCC RyanAir, it should also be a fair bit more pleasant of an experience. Prices are as low as 39 EUR in each direction for all routes.

For the time being, Joon doesn’t have its own website, so you’ll need to book your tickets on Air France. It’s also not possible to earn or redeem Air France/KLM Flying Blue miles for travel on Joon, but that is something that may be coming down the road.
