Air Canada Turns Away Flyer for Marijuana, Changes Policy

A Novia Scotia man is single-handedly forcing Air Canada to change its medical marijuana policy after the airline prohibited him from traveling with the drug, resulting in a nearly-missed holiday vacation. The flyer, Michael Korchak, was traveling from Halifax to Toronto when he was told he could not board with the prescription in his carry-on.

“I was told from the Air Canada employees that medical marijuana is not allowed on Air Canada flights and that the only acceptable form of medical marijuana onboard a flight would be in pill form,” Korchak told CTV News Atlantic.

He eventually gave up and purchased a ticket via Porter Airlines, which allowed him to travel with the medicine. In a statement, Air Canada said it will be altering its policy to include both leaf and pill forms of the drug for travelers.
