Air Canada Allows Passengers to Earn Miles By Donating Miles

Aeroplan, Air Canada’s travel loyalty partner, just revealed a very enticing offer for members who are looking to obtain or improve Air Canada Altitude status during the COVID-19 crisis. Earlier this week, Aeroplan announced a “Travel at Home” promotion that will reward status and bonuses to members who earn Aeroplan Miles between now and May 31, 2020.

Potential Bonuses and the Altitude Prestige 25K Opportunity

Aeroplan is offering bonuses in the form of Altitude Qualifying Miles (AQM), Altitude Qualifying Dollars (AQD), eUpgrade credits, and a potential E75K Altitude status upgrade for members who earn enough Aeroplan Miles. This works in tiers, so the more miles you earn, the more bonuses you receive.

As shown in the table below, the lowest bonus of 1,500 Altitude Qualifying Miles (AQM) is received after earning 15,000 miles, and the highest bonus of a one-time Elite 75K status upgrade (as well as each bonus below it) is received after earning 250,000+ miles.

Although this may not look too exciting for Altitude members who have already met or exceeded Elite 75K status, Aeroplan has also included a 25,000 Aeroplan Miles bonus for Elite 75K and Super Elite 100K members who meet the 250,000-mile tier. The bonus miles will count towards Air Canada Million Mile recognition.

The Aeroplan promotion is also offering Altitude Prestige 25K status for anyone who earns 50,000 Aeroplan miles by May 31, 2020. This status is valid through 2021. Members who obtain Altitude Prestige 25K status will receive special benefits, such as complimentary checked baggage and priority boarding on Air Canada flights.

How to Earn Aeroplan Miles

Due to COVID-19, not many people will be able to earn miles by flying, but there are still a few ways to earn miles from home.

  • Donate Miles: Through April 30, 2020, members who donate five Aeroplan Miles to charities fighting COVID-19 will receive one AQM in return, up to a maximum of 25,000 AQM.
  • Transfer Points: Members can convert points from credit card partners or hotel loyalty programs into Aeroplan Miles.
  • Aeroplan Credit Card: Earn Aeroplan Miles for making everyday purchases on an Aeroplan credit card. If you do not have an Aeroplan credit card, you can open one now, and the Welcome Bonus will count towards the promotion.
  • Aeroplan eStore: Creating an Aeroplan account and shopping through the Aeroplan eStore will also earn Aeroplan Miles. You get additional points for purchases made through the store on an Aeroplan credit card.
