Aggressive Groom Abuses Cabin Crew After Being Refused Alcohol

Jake Shepherd and 26 of his friends were travelling from Manchester, England to Las Vegas when they became disruptive.

A bachelor party turned sour after the groom-to-be ended up in court following disruptive behavior onboard a flight from England’s Manchester Airport (MAN) to Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport (LAS).

The incident occurred on a Thomas Cook flight last June when cabin crew refused to serve any more alcohol to 26-year-old Jake Shepherd and 26 of his friends, who were en route to Shepherd’s bachelor party. Upon being refused, Shepherd swore at a member of the cabin crew and members of his group were said to have acted ‘loudly and aggressively’ toward the flight’s staff, the Metro reports.

Upon returning to the UK, Shepherd was held, charged and finally pleaded guilty to using threatening and abusive language towards a member of the cabin crew. He was also fined £1,400 ($1,723) by Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

Speaking of the case, prosecutor Robin Lynch said, “Twenty six males boarded the flight for a stag [bachelor] party. There were no concerns with the group at first but they soon became very loud and were asked to calm down.”

“They bought numerous drinks and were buying drinks for others in the party. The group had been spoken to about the volume. They [cabin crew] then stopped serving them alcohol and the party were not happy,” Lynch explained.

Speaking for the defense, Stephen Munton, Shepherd’s legal counsel, said that, “This case was dealt with upon Mr Shepherd’s return to the UK and he made full admissions. It is a very regrettable incident for Mr Shepherd as this was his own stag [bachelor] party. They were not interfering with other passengers.”
