I've been lurking here for YEARS and this thread finally drove me to register and post a comment. Every article or segment on TV I've seen regarding tipping mentions tipping housekeeping daily and I always take exception. As others have stated- If you're not one to leave a hotel room messy (I'm not) and the housekeeper did nothing special for you beyond the cleaning and bed making they are supposed to do, why should they get a tip? A fellow traveler once told me she tips to discourage "sticky fingers". Seriously? We should tip housekeeping so they don't steal from us? The one time in my life I tipped a housekeeper was when I specifically requested flat pillows and she tracked down what I needed. Other than that? Do your job.
