Access to New Lounges Available for Amex Platinum Card Members

American Express Platinum and Centurion card members have been spoiled with the most lounge access options. Cardholders and their guests can enter The Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Clubs and Priority Pass lounges, and now there’s a new option for the Amex Platinum members—Lufthansa Lounges.

As of June 1, air passengers who travel through Frankfurt Airport and Munich Airport on a Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines or Swiss International Air Lines ticket and who hold either a personal or a business version of the American Express Platinum Card can enter select Lufthansa-run lounges. Unfortunately, guest access is not complimentary and varies by lounge.

Frankfurt Airport Details

Amex Platinum members will be able to access Lufthansa Business Lounges in Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 1 Concourse B regardless of fare class purchased and Lufthansa Senator Lounge in conjunction with a business-class ticket.

Centurion Card members also can enter Lufthansa First Class in conjunction with a same-day boarding pass in any class.

Access is available June 1 through March 31, 2019.

Munich Airport Details

Amex Platinum cardholders can access Lufthansa Business Lounges in Munich Airport’s Terminal 2 Satellite Building no matter which fare class is purchased and Lufthansa Senator Lounge when flying on a business-class ticket.

Additionally, Centurion Card holders can access Lufthansa First Class after presenting a same-day boarding pass for travel in any class.

Access is available June 1 through May 31, 2019.

In Conclusion

New lounge benefits sure are nice, but access is rather limited to passengers flying with the Lufthansa Group and the guesting policy isn’t as generous as with other lounges you can access as the Amex Platinum cardholder. Having said that, Munich Airport has no Priority Pass lounges in Terminal 2 and Frankfurt Airport has only one lounge in Terminal 1, so this new lounge option can be great for someone holding a ticket on one of these airlines.

Do you have plans traveling through either Frankfurt or Munich airports? Will you visit one of these lounges?

I live in Frankfurt, but moved here from the UK where I was already a BAEC member with Avios points to spend, so have not really made much inroads towards FTL status with Lufthansa. So if I’m flying with a Lufthansa Group airline, this could be very handy for me BUT I can see why some SEN/HON members would be unhappy about Amex customers being given this access. FRA T1 is pretty awful for lounges if not a Star Alliance Gold (or Lufthansa FTL) as your only option is the Luxx which is ground side, and whilst it is in a great location for being used as an arrivals lounge, I have been turned away when trying to use it as such (“this boardkarte is for flying here, you must be leaving here to use this lounge”). It’s also narrow, small, and not somewhere that you want to spend too much time! FRA T2 lounge choices are okay I guess (although I still am confused about the Cathay Pacific lounge – BA check in desk tell me that no BA PAX can use it, but Lounge Buddy tells me that BA Silver and above can use it but BA CE/CW can’t unless they are also OW Emerald). I really liked the new lounge by gate E7 (Prime Class I think it’s called), but the whole security control being after the lounge means that with E7 being so far away from most things that you have to leave the lounge 50 minutes or so before the flight. Anyone who has used FRA T2 a few times knows exactly what the security experience is, including the awful placement of security being airside as compared with the more normal placement of T1 security being where ground side meets airside. There are Lufthansa business lounges scattered all around T1, so is it only specific ones that can be used? When I’ve flown non-schengen flights there as been a business lounge that needed an elevator to reach it, but my last flight (schengen) the lounge was on the same level as the rest of the terminal?

Centurion members can enter the First Class Lounge or the Terminal?
