American Airlines Flights Halted Nationwide for 30 Minutes
On Sunday, a widespread system failure caused American Airlines’ flights to remain halted for about half an hour before the carrier’s operating system was brought back online.
.@AmericanAir main operating system and dispatch went down around 2:05 p.m. ET this afternoon. Working with the #FAA, a national ground stop was implemented for their flights. It has since been restored around 2:45 p.m. ET. Please check with your airline about your flight status.

I don't understand how, with modern IT systems, this can happen. Don't they have shadowing and automatic fail over????
