AA Pilots Protest Safety Concerns

The pilot’s union at American Airlines claimed on Thursday that company managers are destroying safety margins by manipulating regulations to “keep an operation under duress from coming apart at the seams.” Capt. Dan Carey said in an angry letter to fellow pilots that American Airlines is ordering increased airspeeds “nearing aircraft limitations” and faster taxiing times “from what would normally be considered rational.” The Federal Aviation Administration has released a statement claiming that it is aware of the pilots’ letter, and is in constant contact with carriers to ensure safety.

So speeding up the airplane or accepting faster routing is a violation of the contract? Or maybe the union is simply getting ready for negotiations again . . .

Faster = more on time trips = less pay, hmm

"Limitations" include a healthy safety factor, so nearing them is certainly no problem. It's like worrying about a speeding ticket because you are "nearing" the speed limit.
