A Jet2 flight from London Stansted to Turkey had to turn back under an hour into its journey after an intoxicated woman tried to open the plane’s door. Due to the nature of this incident, the flight was escorted back to London by military fighter jets. The woman was taken by police upon landing.

Fighter jets were called upon to escort a Turkey-bound Jet2 flight from London Stansted Airport (STN) on Saturday after an intoxicated female passenger attempted to open the door less than an hour into the service, Mirror Online reports.

Speaking to the outlet, an unidentified passenger explained what had happened, saying, “I was on the flight to Dalaman from Stansted and, after 45 minutes of being in the air, this lady gets called to the front of the plane and she starts shouting and screaming and runs to the airplane door. Cabin crew grabbed her to stop she starts scratching them hitting them, she then got pinned to the floor by cabin crew and passengers, a passenger even sat on her.”

She kept getting up and running back towards the door, she had six people sitting her we had to fly back to Stansted for the police to get her,” they added.

It is reported that, due to the nature of this incident, the flight, which was bound for Dalaman, Turkey, was escorted back to London by fighter jets from Britain’s Royal Air Force (RAF).

Footage of the woman’s disruptive behavior was taken by another traveler on the flight and has been shared by the outlet.

The video shows the yelling woman being restrained and eventually taken away by police, who had entered the cabin upon the plane’s return to London Stansted.

Commenting on the incident on Saturday, a spokesperson for the carrier was quoted as saying, “We are aware of an incident regarding an extremely disruptive passenger on a flight from Stansted to Dalaman earlier this evening.”

The aircraft has returned safely and we are liaising with the relevant authorities to support their investigation. We are working hard to ensure the remaining customers reach their destination as soon possible,” they added.
