300,000 Early Adopters Register For Drones

The Federal Aviation Administration says that nearly 300,000 people have registered their small unmanned drones in a federal database since online registration was made available on Dec. 21.

The FAA says that parameters and registration are necessary to make the skies safer from privately owned drones that fly too close to commercial airplanes or present potential danger to elected officials (such as crashing on the White House lawn). The FAA is in the process of developing rules for commercial drone operators and believes that it will have a system in place by spring.
