20% of Brits Want Hotels Run by Robots

A new poll conducted by Kayak reveals one in five Brits would prefer to stay at a hotel staffed by robots, rather than human employees. The British adults believe robots would be more trustworthy than humans and they would feel more comfortable leaving their luggage behind. In fact, 14 percent of those polled said they believe a robotic staff could eliminate errors in customer service and 18 percent noted that hotel rates would probably drop.

I suspect they would want the robots to look like member's of the royal family.

I suspect it's to do with the tipping culture of a lot of hotels. A lot of Brits are uncomfortable with tipping due to the 'master' 'servant' nature of the transaction - in other words - a lot of brits associate tipping with begging. This can lead to some uncomfortable positions where some cultures get offended when Brits fail to tip / tip less than they should as the Brit doesn't want to spoil the great service received with a specific act that puts the server in their place. Go to any working class pub in the UK and try to tip the barman. Buy them a drink, fine, treat them as equals, good, but any indication you view them of 'lower' status / class and you'll be in trouble. Just the culture / history I guess.
