In Brief: United Changes Mind About Firm 787 Order, Wants 777-300ER Instead
United Airlines has decided it wants to add fewer 787s to its fleet than originally planned, revising an existing order for 10 of the aircraft in favor of the 7773-300ER. The new 777s are slated to be delivered from 2016. In a statement, the airline attributed “attractive upgauge and range opportunities” as its reason for the change.
According to John Rainey, United’s CFO, “These changes are part of a strategy to improve operational reliability, grow capacity with demand, and enable us to achieve our long term goal to improve margins and return on invested capital.”
