It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year…For AAdvantage Members?

It’s the season of giving, and American Airlines is giving something to all their AAdvantage members this year. On December 2, 2020, every registered member of AAdvantage will get a gift ranging from bonus miles or single-use lounge passes, up to 500,000 miles and a hotel stay.

The holiday season is usually marked with words of kindness and gifts exchanged among friends and family. This year, American Airlines is also getting into the giving spirit, by giving all of their loyalty program members a gift. Starting on December 2, 2020, all registered AAdvantage members will receive something from the airline, as part of their latest promotion: “Our Greatest Gift is You.”

Gifts Range From Admirals Club Passes to 500,000 AAdvantage Miles and Hotel Stays

The promotion isn’t targeted, meaning everyone who is a member of AAdvantage will get a gift. Members can register for the promotion by logging into their account between Dec. 2 and Dec. 16, 2020, and clicking “Register” in the promotions center on the AAdvantage website or in the American smartphone app.

Once complete, everyone will get a virtual gift to “unwrap” in their account. The minor prizes range from award miles, complimentary Main Cabin Extra upgrades or an Admirals Club day pass, along with an “exclusive offer” on airfare in 2021. In addition, six lucky flyers will win a big gift from their holiday sweepstakes.

All six grand prize winners will receive 500,000 AAdvantage miles, while five will be given an all-inclusive, four-night stay for themselves and a guest at the Hyatt Ziva or Hyatt Zilara resort of their choice. The sixth winner will be given a three-night stay for themselves and three guests to Universal Orlando Resort, which includes park passes.

“Our members truly are our greatest gift,” Rick Elieson, president of the American AAdvantage program, said in a press release. “This holiday season, we’re giving every AAdvantage member a gift — it’s our way of showing thanks and appreciation for being why we fly — this year and every year.”

If you’re not a member of AAdvantage, it’s not too late to get in on the merriment. Anyone who joins AAdvantage by Dec. 16 and registers for the promotion will be given a gift and be entered into the sweepstakes.

AAdvantage Continues to Give in 2021 With Reduced Loyalty Status Requirements

The gift from AAdvantage is one example of how the loyalty program is adapting to the current world conditions and reduced demand for travel. The airline was the first to announce reduced elite status requirements for the 2021 benefit year in October 2020, granting benefits for fewer miles flown and dollars spent.

100 AA miles. What's that worth, a dollar? More insulting than anything else.

I got 1,000 million miler miles which is appreciated as I am very close to the 2,000,000 mark. Personally I am quite happy with that as a free gift.

100 miles. Not worth the time it took to register.

$300 off AA vacation package but must spend $2500 to use. Would have preferred a club pass or miles.
