Norwegian Offers CashPoints for Passengers Who Do Not Wish to Travel

The coronavirus has forced country borders to close and cities to shut down, and worried travelers are taking it upon themselves to their cancel flights out of an abundance of caution. As of Tuesday, Norwegian Air Shuttle finally announced how it would be addressing these situations, stating customers can cancel their flights for CashPoints if they do not wish to travel.

CashPoints as a Ticket Refund

Like many other airlines, Norwegian is offering credit in the form of CashPoints for flights that are canceled by the customer. This only applies to “flights that have not been canceled by Norwegian.” Certain conditions apply:

  • CashPoints can be requested for flights that were booked up to and including March 22, 2020, and are valid for LowFare, LowFare+ and Premium tickets
  • The original outbound flight must be scheduled to depart by May 31, 2020
  • The booking must have been booked directly with Norwegian (does not apply if the ticket was booked through a third-party or travel agency)
  • Your reservation must be canceled at least 6 hours prior to the flight departure

Please note: Flex and PremiumFlex tickets are already fully refundable and can be canceled using this link.

Redeeming CashPoints

Below are the conditions outlined for CashPoints issued for coronavirus cancellations:

  • CashPoints will go onto the Norwegian Reward account of the individual who made the booking
  • If you do not have a Norwegian Reward account, you will need to sign up for one after you submit your claim
  • The full ticket fare will be refunded as CashPoints (1 Norwegian Krone = 1 CashPoint)
  • All CashPoints will go to only one account, but they are not personal to that specific member and can be used for any Norwegian flight or service
  • CashPoints must be redeemed by November 30, 2020

It is important to note that the CashPoints issued in the case of cancellation due to the coronavirus have different terms and conditions than regular CashPoints. According to Norwegian’s website, regular CashPoints are redeemable “in the year that they are earned or during the two following years,” but the conditions say coronavirus CashPoints expire on November 30, 2020.

How Can I Use My CashPoints?

1 CashPoint is equal to 1 Norwegian Krone (10 CashPoints = £1.00). They can be redeemed for all flights to all destinations within the Norwegian network. Furthermore, they can be used for flight tickets (full or partial), luggage, cancellation insurance, seat reservations, and ticket changes. You can read more about how to earn CashPoints here.
