More Baggage Allowance Is for Babies

Virgin Australia has introduced some new features for parents traveling with children less than two years old — including a free checked bag allowance and an additional carry-on bag for your baby’s belongings.

Parents flying with children less than two years now have extra baggage allowance on Virgin Australia. The airline just announced that those under-two are now allowed a free check-in bag that weighs up to 50 pounds. Parents can also check, for free, two infant items, like a car seat or stroller. Additionally, parents will get an extra carry-on bag weighing up to 15 pounds to hold baby essentials during the flight.

“We know travelling with an infant can be incredibly stressful and we’re pleased to make that journey a little more effortless by introducing an infant baggage allowance on domestic and international flights,” Virgin Australia’s general manager of ground operations, Paul Woosnam, told 10News. “We want to be the airline of choice for travelling families and we’re proud to be the only carrier in Australia to recognise that travelling with an infant sometimes means packing far more than usual. We think parents will be pleased too, as they can now pack a little extra for themselves on their next trip.”

This is great news for people flying with babies, and other passengers on the plane—with more of the baby’s needs met, they’ll possibly be happier and less vocal.
