Korean Air CEO Dies

The chairman and CEO of Korean Air, Cho Yang-ho passed away on Sunday from an undisclosed illness. He was 70.
Cho succeeded his father as head of Korean Air’s parent company, Hanjin Kal Group, in 2003. In the following year, he put Korean Air on the map when he founded the SkyTeam airline alliance.
Recently, his family has been on the spotlight for fostering an environment of abuse both in the workplace and with their employees in the home. His daughter, Heather Cho, is infamously known for the “nutgate” incident in 2014 when she assaulted Korean Air flight attendants for serving her nuts in a bag instead of a porcelain bowl.
Cho was also on trial for embezzlement allegations, which resulted in him being ousted from the Korean Air board.
He is survived by his wife, daughters Emily and Heather, son Walter and five grandsons. His son, Walter Cho, is currently serving as the acting president and chief operating officer of Korean Air and most likely to succeed his father.
