Flights to the Caribbean Just Got Very Cheap

Ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has announced the launch of two new routes from MCO to Jamaica. The new direct services will operate between Orlando and Montego Bay and Orlando and Kingston. The expansion has been hailed by both the carrier and authorities within Jamaica’s tourist industry.
Spirit Airlines has announced the launch of two new routes to Jamaica from Orlando International Airport (MCO). In a statement late last month, the ultra-low-cost carrier confirmed that it is now operating a direct service from MCO to Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ) and, as of March 1st, would operate another direct service between Orlando and Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport (KIN).
The Caribbean Journal has reported that the service between MCO and MBL, “…will operate four times each week on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays,” while flights between MCO and KIN, “…will run three times a week, with service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.”
Speaking of the expansion, John Kirby, the carrier’s vice president of network planning, said, “We are pleased to bring the best value in the sky with more flights from Orlando International Airport with nonstop service to the beautiful island of Jamaica.”
Kirby’s sentiment was shared by Phil Brown, chief executive officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, who said, “Spirit’s decision to serve Kingston, Jamaica from Orlando International Airport presents year-round travel opportunities between these two great destinations for the first time in over a decade.”
Tourist authorities in Jamaica also commended Spirit’s move. Offering her comments, Francine Carter Henry, Jamaica Tourist Board’s manager of tour operators said, “Jamaica welcomes Spirit Airlines and the additional flights presented to our travelers. We are constantly looking to expand gateways serving the destination and Spirit Airlines provide very good options to support a constantly growing appetite for travel from the USA to both Kingston and Montego Bay airports.”

MBJ not MBL. Come on, really?
Competition is always a good thing for the consumer, although Montego Bay isn't up on the priority list. 3rd world country = resort trap and accomodation depth is a bit week for gated decent resorts with good bang for your buck unfortunately. So what I make up for in airfare is lost on accommodations unfortunately.
