Virgin Atlantic Drops Makeup Mandate

It’s 2019 and Virgin Atlantic (VS) is giving their female flight attendants the ability to choose.

Virgin Atlantic, not particularly known for its strides in gender equality, just updated their uniform guidelines. Female cabin crew is no longer required to don a full-face makeup while on the clock.

They also get to wear pants as part of the standard uniform, instead of requesting them.

This is the same airlines that reprimanded their cabin crew if their lipstick didn’t match the statement red jacket. And who can forget when its shameless leader, Sir Richard Branson, did this during a promotional event:

Mark Anderson, the airline’s executive vice-president of customer, said the update came as a result of “listening to the views of our people” and the new guidelines would “provide our team with more choice on how they want to express themselves at work.”

Virgin Atlantic’s newest cabin crew apprentices still seem to be in the traditional pencil skirts, full-face makeup, and perfectly coiffed updo.
