In Brief: Ryanair Slammed with $620K Fine for Lousy Customer Service

Ryanair Ltd. has been fined nearly $620,000 over alleged issues with its customer service. The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) watchdog group put its foot down on Ryanair after receiving a number of complaints from passengers concerning the budget airline’s premium customer service phone line. According to the AGCM, customers claimed that finding alternate flights and receiving reimbursements after flight cancellations through the service was “difficult and unreasonably expensive.”  Ryanair plans to appeal the ruling.

Thats great from a country that has owned Alitalia for most of the last 70 years. At least RyanAir dont have a requirement that you can speak Irish Gaelic before you can get any real service when you have complaint. You get nowhere fast with Italians if you cant complain in Italian.

I fly with Ryanair 20 or 30 times a year, have done for the last 15 years. Im safe in the knowledge that I will arrive on time and they wont go on strike like a full service airline. I usually pay £20 for a flight and if I cant make it. I just let them keep the £20.

So the Italian authorities have learned small-scale from their American brethren that fining foreign companies over reasons that sound superficially compelling is a great way to boost tax revenue. 620K isn't 12B though and Italy does not yet have the strength and pull to fine large bank it seems.

Er... Ryanair runs like a collections agency, very friendly to you if you try to spend money with them, very abusive and gangster to you if you try to get them to give you money (reimbursement, cancellation refund, etc.) This is already reported so many times, they are like scam artists, putting you through so many traps on an initial "cheap fare", I had a relative in UK that was so happy he found a "Deal" to fly for only 60 Euros when other airlines charge 200 Euros, but then after all is said and done he spent 250 Euros with Ryanair before he boarded the plane, LOL
