United’s 30% Transfer Bonus from Hotel Programs

If you have a stash of hotel points that would be better spent as airline miles, here’s your chance to take advantage of a great promo by United Airlines. For a limited time only, you can earn 30% bonus miles on all hotel points transfers, up to a total bonus of 25,000 miles.

United partners with most major hotel points programs including The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Marriott Rewards (which have absorbed SPG) as well as HHonors, IHG, Radisson, World of Hyatt, Choice Privileges, Wyndham, and more.

To take advantage of this promo, be sure to register with your MileagePlus number here and convert your hotel stash to United miles by November 30th, 2018. Then, you will automatically earn a 30% mileage bonus, up to 25,000 United miles.

In order to maximize the full value of your potential bonus, the maximum points transfer you should make would be the points equivalent to 83,300 United miles. In that case, the bonus would be 30% of 83,300 miles which is just about 25,000 bonus miles. Of course, be sure to pay attention to the points-to-miles transfer ratio which will depend on your particular hotel rewards program.

Note that your bonus miles may not be immediately posted. The terms of the promo state that the bonus can be applied as late as January 30th of 2019, so don’t plan on an immediate redemption using the bonus points.

So, what can you do with United miles? The obvious choice is to use your miles to book flights. One way economy routes within the contiguous US, Alaska and Canada start at just 10,000 miles. Economy routes to Europe start at just 30,000 miles, the majority of which would be covered by your 25,000 mile bonus.

Alternatively, you may fly economy routes to Africa, Asia, and Oceania for just 40,000 miles. Fly first or business classes from 70,000 bonus miles, but note that these routes are subject to additional fares when both business and first class cabins are offered. Of course, you don’t have to redeem your miles on flights, but you’ll usually get the most value for doing so. Use your miles to book rental cars or even a cruise.
