American Airlines to Copyright Office: Our Logo Isn’t That Generic

American Airlines’ current logo, which was first debuted in 2013 and features a nondescript font and an eagle’s head poking out between a blue and red border, has not proved sufficiently distinct enough to rate copyright protection from the United States Copyright Office, and the airline is appealing this decision in court.

“While the bar for creativity is low, it does exist and the work cannot glide over even its low heights,” said the Copyright Office in January.

For its part, American Airlines is indignant about the fact that the agency regularly approves insignia that aren’t any more, “and in many cases less,” creative than a bird’s beak separating two primary colors.

The new logo, looks pretty damn distinct to me. The only people worse than airline execs are low level federal employees. They have no accountability either.

The new logo has no letters and is what is being appealed. Writers here would fail middle school English class.

The author sounds confused between the old and current logos.

AA logo does look similar to Avianca, whom was first out with it.
