Airlines Start Bans on Lithium-Ion Batteries

American Airlines will allegedly be placing a ban on any luggage powered by non-removable batteries on January 15 of 2018, going one step beyond solely banning lithium-ion batteries due to their tendency to combust. Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines are both reported to have begun taking similar steps in order to maintain security aboard flights.

American Airlines passengers using smart luggage will be asked to remove all batteries from their luggage and place it in carry-on bags.
