A recent study ranked cities around the world by average cost of hotel stays, revealing the cheapest and most expensive destinations.

A new study by HRS, The Hotel Solutions Provider, recently identified the most expensive cities for hotel stays. New York City comes out on top, where prices have increased 7 percent year over year to an average cost of $263.33 per night. Boston is the second-most expensive at $247.66, followed by San Francisco at $238.25.

HRS’ study shows that Europe is not far behind in expensive hotel rooms and reveals that London — which topped all other European cities — prices have shot up more than 17 percent over the last year to nearly $210.08. Edinburgh trails behind London at $186.53 per night, followed by Leeds and Cardiff at $131.67 and $126.96 respectively. Leeds also had the biggest year-over-year increase at 27 percent.

On the other end of the spectrum, the cheapest hotel deals in Europe can be found in Warsaw and Budapest, both averaging $87.89 per night, and Prague at $85.41.

According to Jon West, HRS’ managing director for the U.K. and Ireland, economic recovery is fueling more travel and enabling businesses to send more employees on trips, which could explain the increase in hotel room prices. West notes that while this is definitely good news for hotels, businesses should look at this as a push to review their travel practices and whether or not they getting the best deals on hotel stays.

That 17 percent increase in London is contrasted by the rest of Europe, where the average cost of hotel stays has only increased about 2 percent.

This study lacks much credibility. Hotel prices should be based on a certain level of accommodation (5 star luxury etc..). I don't even know where you might want to stay in London for those prices.
