Hilton Debuting Keyless Room Entry for HHonors Members in 2015

Hilton HHonors members will be able to take advantage of mobile keyless room entry at select hotels beginning in 2015.
Hilton is adding a new level of functionality to its digital check-in technology, which the company debuted in July. Soon, HHonors members who use the loyalty program’s official mobile app will be able to take advantage of keyless room entry.
Currently, members using the HHonors app can check-in, choose exactly which room they’d like to stay in and request pre-stocked items in their room, all via the digital platform. Starting in late Spring 2015, users can completely bypass the front desk and go right to their room, using their mobile device to unlock the door.
The mobile room key will also provide access to executive floors, the fitness center, elevators, parking garages, and basically anything else in the hotel that requires a room key for entry. Hilton hopes that mobile room key functionality will help make guests’ travel experience more convenient.
Spring 2015 will be a period of beta testing at 10 hotels. The feature will roll out across the entire Conrad Hotels & Resorts brand in early 2015. Hilton plans to further introduce the program in the summer at U.S. Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, and Canopy by Hilton. By 2016, Hilton expects to have 11 brands using the program globally.
Mobile room entry will only be available through the Hilton HHonors app, which can be downloaded for free on Apple, Android and Windows phones. The functionality will debut on Apple and Android, with Windows phone capability coming later in the year.

Given Hilton's track record with electronic and account safety, perhaps we should be keeping old fashion keys?
