Panic-Stricken Flyer Sinks Teeth Into FA

A passenger’s severe fear of flying left a flight attendant with a nasty bite wound after the extremely nervous flyer panicked before boarding.

A passenger bravely attempting to overcome her fear of flying reportedly lost her nerve just before boarding a flight from Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR). It turns out that in this particular instance, however, it seems the flight attendant welcoming passengers onboard was the brave one who actually had reason to be afraid.

The Daily Mail reports that when the unnamed passenger was faced with the reality of boarding the plane, she violently lashed out in a moment of panic. The cabin crew member ended up bearing the brunt of what came next. The terror-stricken passenger is said to have left a gnarly bite wound on the flight attendant’s upper arm before she could be calmed down.

Images of the flight attendant’s bite mark have made their way to social media. Photographic evidence of the attack is turning stomachs as well as spurring labor activists to call for harsher penalties for violent passengers. The airline workers union, CESHA points out that despite the horrific nature of the employee’s injury, the flight managed to depart on time.

CESHA officials say that this latest incident is just another graphic example of the sort of violence airline employees face on a regular basis. Labor leaders say many of the incidents don’t make headlines, but represent a very real threat to rank-and-file members. “We are surprised that those passengers were in most cases only fined and then still allowed to fly,” a union spokesperson told the newspaper.
