A spill of formaldehyde and fish in the cargo hold of an Alaska Airlines flight left passengers without their luggage after landing in Fairbanks, Alaska, Friday.

According to reports, one passenger checked two closed buckets of “fish and formaldehyde” without alerting agents of the hazardous chemical. At some point mid-flight, the chemical leaked out and cargo workers noticed the smell when the aircraft landed.

The airline has since apologized and the incident is being investigated. Also, as of yesterday, 107 of 118 bags in the hold had been tested and cleared.
