PHOTOS: The 5 Coolest Planes Coming to an Airport Near You
Five fascinating planes were unveiled at the Farnborough International Airshow near London earlier this week.
Airplane geeks, listen up! The Farnborough International Airshow is the place to be for all things aviation—from debuts of new technology to the unveiling of fancy new aircraft for both business and commercial purposes. This year, CNN reported on what they thought were the five best new planes unveiled at the show.
Bombardier CS100

The Bombardier CS100 is a new narrow-body aircraft — according to CNN, the first one designed from scratch in almost 30 years. Although it only has one aisle, the interior feels spacious and roomy, with high ceilings and bigger windows, alleviating that claustrophobic feeling passengers get on smaller planes. The CS100 seats up to 125 and has a range of about 3,500 miles. Delta has already agreed to buy 75 and possibly more.
Airbus A350-900

This plane isn’t new for this year, but maintains status as one of the show favorites. It’s made out of strong, lightweight carbon fiber — which is more expensive than traditional aluminum, but provides unrivaled benefits, like fuel savings and the ability to help combat jet lag. Delta will also be flying these planes starting in 2017. They seat up to 315 passengers and can fly for up to 12 hours.
Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

This plane also isn’t new — it started flying in 2014 — but showgoers love it. American Airlines will begin flying with these planes this year, in November. The Dreamliner -9 is also made from carbon fiber, allowing this plane to fly the world’s longest non-stop route by a U.S. airline: Singapore to San Francisco in 16 hours and 20 minutes.
Embraer E190-E-2

This new jet is an energy-saving powerhouse. It’s a regional plane and can carry up to 130 passengers, but efficient engines and a unique wing design cut fuel usage by 14.5 percent.
Boeing 737MAX

Up to 200 people can take a flight on the MAX at once, all looking through the window to see a feature no other plane today has: advance technology winglets. The super-quiet engines were also designed especially for this aircraft
