Moscow Runway Collapses Beneath Parked Plane
A runway at Domodedovo International Airport (DME) collapsed under the weight of an Airbus A319 containing 147 passengers. The S7 Airlines flight had completed a flight from St. Petersburg to Moscow when the incident occurred. A spokesperson for local law enforcement said: “The plane let the other aircraft pass and was waiting for parking instructions. During two minutes of waiting, the asphalt surface under the wheels of the aircraft began to break down, causing the plane to sink. The pilot could not do anything because the chassis was blocked in the asphalt.” The Airbus was forced to remain stuck like that for half an hour. The problematic stretch of runway has reportedly been repaired since the incident.
