The new paint job features a throwback to the airline’s past legacy and an expanded habitat for the popular animal images that grace the fleet’s tail.

Frontier Airlines’ new livery, which debuted on Tuesday, makes prominent nods to the airline’s heritage. The new look for the carrier’s aircraft includes the crescent and arrow from the airline’s 1950s era DC-3 planes, as well as a stylized Frontier “F” first introduced in the late 1970s. A new font for the livery was created based on the classic logo. The wildlife images of various exotic animals, first introduced to Frontier airplanes in 1994, still have a place in the airline’s new look.

Each aircraft in the airline’s fleet is now named after the “spokesanimal” exhibited on an expanded space on the tail section of the plane. The animal’s “signature” will be displayed as scripted nose art which is in itself a retro-version of classic Frontier liveries. The airline also plans to more prominently feature the spokesanimals in its branding and gate and ground equipment motifs. The best known mascots for the airline include Grizwald the bear, Hector the sea otter and Flip the dolphin, along with penguins, Jim, Joe, Jay and Gary who sing in a barbershop quartet.

The debut of the new livery coincides with the airline’s attempts to rebrand itself as an ultra-low-cost carrier under the leadership of former Spirit Airlines investors. Frontier also announced on Tuesday, they will offer one-day-only fares of $15.99 on inaugural flights from Cincinnati International Airport (CVG).
