Hilton HHonors Diamond VIP Members Now Receive More Benefits

Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program members with Diamond VIP elite status can now receive all on-property benefits when checking in at Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Hotels & Resorts and DoubleTree by Hilton hotel properties worldwide, which can include:

  • Hilton HHonors bonus points per stay
  • Complimentary continental breakfast
  • An upgrade to a Preferred Room, including suites
  • Executive floor lounge access

In the past, Hilton HHonors Diamond VIP members usually had to choose from the above benefits instead of receive all of them, and suite upgrades were not officially offered as part of the former room upgrade process. Therefore, this announcement is good news — right?

Not necessarily, as some FlyerTalk members are concerned about management at hotel properties who have been known to be generous with benefits in the past may now be compelled to strictly follow this new policy, resulting in what could be perceived as a devaluation rather than an enhancement. Some FlyerTalk members are also concerned about vague verbiage which can be interpreted a number of different ways.

For example, here is an official statement regarding upgrades to Preferred Rooms:

“Diamond HHonors guests will receive upgrades to preferred rooms, based on availability for the entire stay at the time of check-in. Upgrades for Diamond HHonors guests may include the next-best available room from the room type booked. Upgrades may also be rooms with desirable views, corner rooms, rooms on high floors, rooms with special amenities, rooms on Executive Floors, or suites, as identified by each property. Some exclusions based on rate and room type may apply.”

Does this mean that management at a hotel property can deem a room with a great view as an upgrade over a room with a poor view instead of offering a room with access to the Executive Lounge?

I do not know what is the answer to that question, although I have almost always been treated well at Hilton family properties worldwide. We will simply have to wait and see what FlyerTalk members will report, based on their actual experiences.

Here is the discussion in its entirety on FlyerTalk pertaining to the enhanced policy regarding on-property benefits for Hilton HHonors Diamond VIP members.

Good grief, a hotel chain strives to treat us Diamond people with everything they can provicde and you’re picking the whole scheme apart? Really, guys, get a life.

I am top dog at both Hilton and InterContinental; I am recognized at Priority properties about half the time, but Hilton treats me like a queen every property, every time. I’ve always had lounge privileges where a lounge exists and is open. I guess if they were not offerred, I’d ask nicely. Priority properties seem to have some secret kinds of criteria for upgrading anything, I never know what will happen, so I take what’s offered, with thanks. I remember checking into my favorite CrownePlaza at Heathrow a couple of years ago and being told I couldn’t have access to the lounge because that floor was sold out. OK, why can’t I take the elevator up and have breakfast in the morning? Sorry, you can’t. Not very good customer relations. Hilton, on the other hand, seems to revel in treating their Diamond people like …. like diamonds!
