Beware of Possible Scam E-Mail Message NOT From American Airlines

A possible e-mail message scam has been reported by FlyerTalk member joshwex90 — and fellow FlyerTalk members agree that the e-mail message purportedly from American Airlines is “fishy.”

The content of the e-mail message is as follows:

Hello,

FLIGHT NUMBER AA983
ELECTRONIC 833758931
DATE & TIME / NOVEMBER 16, 2011, 12:54 PM
ARRIVING / NEW YORK JFK
TOTAL PRICE / 367.45 USD

Your bought ticket is attached to the letter as a scan document.
To use your ticket you should print it.

Thank you for your attention.
American Airlines.

One clue is the misuse of the English language with the wording of “Your bought ticket.” Another clue, according to FlyerTalk member swag, is that American Airlines flight 983 does not go to or from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Our advice is to delete this e-mail message and not open any attachments, which could possibly adversely affect your computer with a virus or “malware.”

If you are uncertain about any information regarding your booked flights, contact American Airlines directly.
