The Million Miler program of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program has been officially announced today — and this announcement was of no surprise to FlyerTalk members, as they have speculated and expected as early as April 21 that earning Million Miler status on American Airlines would indeed become more difficult. The AAdvantage® Million Miler Program Launches on 12/1/11 where only certain mileage activity will count towards Million Miler status on American Airlines. Currently, every AAdvantage mile earned counts towards Million Miler status, no matter what the activity — but that ends starting December 1, 2011.
The good news is that every American Airlines AAdvantage mile earned before December 1, 2011 will still count towards Million Miler status. Accordingly, those who have already earned Million Miler status will be unaffected by this announcement.
If you are interested in having Million Miler status in the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flyer loyalty program, you may want to consider increasing the activity in your account, such as transferring hotel points from participating frequent guest loyalty programs. Other tips on how to accomplish this are given by FlyerTalk members.
