Earn Unlimited Double Delta SkyMiles AND Medallion Qualification Miles To and From LaGuardia Airport — But…

You can earn 2,000 bonus SkyMiles and 2,000 Medallion Qualification Miles in addition to what you would normally earn when you first book your next reservation on a round-trip flight marketed and operated by Delta Air Lines or Delta Connection to and from anywhere — and then each time you are a passenger on a flight segment to or from LaGuardia Airport in New York which is marketed and operated by Delta Air Lines or Delta Connection, you can earn double SkyMiles and double Medallion Qualification Miles — all through July 10, 2014…

…and there is no limit to the bonus SkyMiles and Medallion Qualification Miles which you can earn within the qualification period.

While this promotion known as Earn On The Double can be potentially beneficial to you if you fly as a passenger in or out of New York on flights operated by Delta Air Lines, there are at least a couple of issues:

  1. The terms and conditions of this promotion state that “Only members who receive this communication directly from Delta Air Lines are eligible to participate in this offer. This offer is non-transferable. To participate in this offer, eligible members must register online by July 10, 2014.” This would indicate that if you did not receive an official communication directly from Delta Air Lines that you are not eligible to participate in this promotion. FlyerTalk members have reported that they can enroll for this promotion but have not had their registration confirmed. I experienced the same results when I attempted to register for this promotion.*
  2. The terms and conditions of this promotion are causing confusion for some FlyerTalk members because the language used to market this promotion does not seem to be in synchronization with the language in the terms and conditions of this promotion — and I bolded and highlighted in red the parts which initially seem to contradict each other:
    • “Eligible members must first enroll in the promotion by July 10, 2014 in order to participate. Flights booked prior to enrollment will not be eligible for this promotion. Flights must be booked and completed within the promotional period, which is through July 10, 2014. Enrolled members will earn 2,000 miles and Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) when they book and fly their first round-trip Delta or Delta Connection marketed and operated flight. Members will then be eligible to earn double miles and MQMs on the first nonstop flight out of or into New York-LaGuardia (LGA) on any Delta or Delta Connection marketed and operated flights. Flights purchased with a published fare that earns full mileage accrual are eligible. Codeshare flights operated by carriers other than Delta are excluded from this offer. There is no limit to the bonus miles and MQMs that can be earned within the qualification period. Double bonus miles and MQMs will be awarded on base miles only and will not be awarded for mileage bonuses, including Medallion mileage bonus, or other class of service mileage or MQM bonuses.”

“I’m not sure I understand”, posted FlyerTalk member qmiro. “You need to do two separate trips to get the full benefit. You can’t just fly round trip from Lga once?”

I could be wrong, as this promotion is rather confusing — but my interpretation is that on the first round-trip flight, you can fly as a passenger to or from any airport served by Delta Air Lines to earn the 2,000 bonus SkyMiles and 2,000 Medallion Qualification Miles. After that, on your first segment to or from LaGuardia Airport, you start earning the double SkyMiles and double Medallion Qualification Miles, as a round-trip flight does not seem to be required — and you will earn double SkyMiles and double Medallion Qualification Miles on every segment to or from LaGuardia Airport through July 10, 2014 with no limit to what you can earn.

Although the language seems to state so, I cannot confirm at this time that you can simply fly as a passenger to or from any airport served by Delta Air Lines to earn the 2,000 bonus SkyMiles and 2,000 Medallion Qualification Miles without having to take any more trips. Must you continue to fly as a passenger to or from LaGuardia Airport afterwards? I am not sure.

In reference to this promotion, FlyerTalk member TheMadBrewer wondered “if folks in Seattle who get the double MQMS will get quad MQMs if they fly SEA-LGA?”

FlyerTalk member ThrowDownYourLeavyScreens responded, “The fine print does not say that you can’t combine the 2X LGA with any other offer. However, I read the rules to say that you only get the 2X MQM on the segment XXX-LGA or LGA-XXX, rather than the entire itinerary. I think that the 2X SEA promotion works similarly (for itineraries SEA-YYY or YYY-SEA). So if there is a nonstop SEA-LGA, I would think you could recieve 4X MQM. But think you’ll just get a net 2X (2X SEA-XXX + 2X XXX-LGA) if you have to make 1 connection. SEA-ATL-LGA anyone?”

Remember that there is now a Medallion Qualification Dollar component in addition to earning Medallion Qualification Miles in order to earn Medallion elite level status for 2015.

My advice is that it costs nothing for you to enroll for this potentially lucrative promotion — especially if you did receive the official communication from Delta Air Lines — as you have nothing to lose; but if you did not, you should actively participate only if you already have travel plans to fly as a passenger on a flight segment to or from LaGuardia Airport in New York which is marketed and operated by Delta Air Lines or Delta Connection by July 10, 2014.

As I did not receive the official communication from Delta Air Lines — yet, anyway, as I always seem to be the last to receive them — I personally would not purposely go out of my way to spend the time, effort and money specifically to participate in this promotion because of the possibility that it may not be honored…

…but it is up to you as to whether or not you want to take that chance.

* Edited to add: I did enroll for this promotion earlier today and was unable to confirm my registration — but when I returned to my Delta Air Lines SkyMiles frequent flier loyalty program account moments ago, the promotion simply vanished without a trace. Not only are other FlyerTalk members reporting similar issues, but now many FlyerTalk members are unable to register for this promotion.

However — when I attempted to register for this promotion again — the words YOU ARE ALREADY ENROLLED IN THIS PROMOTION still appear; so this may not be completely “dead.” As they say on FlyerTalk, your mileage may vary, so try registering for it anyway. Good luck to you.
