Pre-Order Meal Reservations in Economy Class on Alaska Airlines Flights

Alaska Airlines is testing on a trial basis the ability for you to order and reserve a meal before your flight from Seattle to seven select destinations in the United States from now through November 30, 2013 — and with one exception, all meals cost $6.00.

The meals being offered for $6.00 are the following:

French Toast Breakfast

BBQ Pork Sandwich

Beecher’s Flagship, Tillamook Sharp Cheddar and a wedge of Brie with fresh seasonal fruit and Partners crackers.

Flights from Seattle to Atlanta, Newark, Honolulu, Kona, Chicago, Oakland and Ontario will offer you the ability to reserve your meal in advance of your flight. Not all of the options listed above will be offered on every flight — you need to enter your travel date and flight information to see what is available for your flight.

None of the options appeal to me, so I personally would not order any of them. Also, I believe that the prices are a little steep but not to the point of unreasonable. However — as with the introduction last year of premium meals for economy class passengers on international flights operated by US Airways — I applaud Alaska Airlines for attempting to offer its passengers additional options.

Would you pre-order a meal from Alaska Airlines if you are a passenger in the economy class cabin of an airplane on a domestic flight operated by Alaska Airlines?

This sounds like a great idea. How about on the returns?

I had the pulled pork sandwich on my flight on Tuesday. It was actually delicious. It was the only hot option – it will be great if this system allows you to choose from multiple hot options.

Since AS has an directive that if your in FC you can not even purchase a meal from Main Cabin until everyone has had a chance to purchase this could work ! Many times the purchase meals are far better than what’s served!

    Maybe this will work!

I think it’s great that they’re bringing back some meal options. However, Alaska Airlines has to remember to be more vegetarian-friendly. The only vegetarian dish is the cheese and fruit platter, which is also the only one that is $7 instead of $6. Vegetarians get hungry, too! Alaska Airlines has to be careful not to turn away a growing part of the population. Also, there are no options for vegans since cheese is not a part of their diet. If they don’t want to add a new meal, they can have a substitution option. For example, strawberries instead of bacon for the french toast breakfast or avocado instead of chicken for the asian wrap.
