Back Again: Stay Twice and Earn a Free Night at Choice Hotels Properties

In what appears to be a repeat of a promotion from February of this year, you can earn an unlimited amount of free nights with this promotion by Choice Hotels, as you earn 8,000 Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points — enough for a free night at greater than 1,500 hotel properties — after each second qualifying stay between September 5, 2013 and November 13, 2013.

However, you must register for this promotion before arrival and book your stay at a qualifying rate — and registration is now open.

While a qualifying stay could mean a minimum of one night per stay at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites or Ascend Collection hotel properties, each stay at Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel or MainStay Suites hotel properties must be a minimum of two consecutive nights per stay to qualify for this promotion.

Elite Diamond and Elite Platinum members can book directly with a hotel property; however, if you book through the official Internet web site of Choice Hotels, you will receive 100 additional Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points with every qualifying stay.

If you book early, you can save up to 20 percent on room rates — but the reservation must be booked through the official Internet web site of Choice Hotels using your Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program account number and must be made at least 7, 14, 21 or 30 days in advance, which will vary based on the hotel property for which the reservation is being made. Be aware that you cannot change or cancel your reservation once it is booked, and the discounted rate is not refundable. Your credit card will be charged for the total reservation amount within 48 hours of booking your reservation.

Other terms and conditions may apply.

In a way, this promotion is somewhat misleading, as this little tidbit can be found in those terms and conditions:

“A free night at most Choice Privileges locations requires more than 8,000 points.”

As I advised during a similar promotion last year, you may want to avoid staying at Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel or MainStay Suites hotel properties because they require a minimum of two consecutive nights per stay to qualify for this promotion. More often than not, staying at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites or Ascend Collection hotel properties would be a better value for taking advantage of this promotion — unless the room rate at any of those hotel properties is at least double the room rate of the Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel or MainStay Suites hotel properties.

You also have the option to redeem your Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points for a gift card of your choice worth $50.00 — but you will need to stay a minimum of four nights during the promotion period, as it will cost you 16,000 Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points.

You can also redeem 5,000 of your Choice Privileges frequent guest loyalty program points for other items such as 1,000 frequent flier loyalty program miles — and that will usually result in keeping your frequent flier loyalty program miles from expiring.

These are just a few ways in which you can benefit from this otherwise tepid and unexciting promotion…

It’s actually a repeat of a promotion they do about 3/4 of every year, if you just look at what you earn (8000 points for 2 “stays”). Yes, in the summer they describe it differently (as a “gift card” promo), but you still actually earn exactly the same for 2 “stays” (8000 points), it’s just that in the summer it’s tied to a special discounted gift card redemption (8000 points instead of the normal 16000 points). But on the earning side, it’s 8000 points per 2 “stays” whether it’s a “gift card” promo or a “free night” promotion. (And the definition of a “stay” varying from 1 night minimum at Comfort Inn to 2 nights minimum at Econo Lodge is also the same for ALL of Choice’s “stay”-based promotions.)

You may think it’s unexciting because you don’t know a related fact: Periodically (but unpredictably), mostly in “shoulder season”, quite a few pricey-on-cash Choice hotels in Europe go “on sale” at 8000 points per night. In that case, the 8000 points can be VERY valuable!

Can I combine free night with two stays and new 30% off promo?

I registered for the two for one promo. When I search for a hotel, it shows me 30%off rate, but, when I click book it, it shows me regular pricing on the hotel website. I have to select 30% off promo tab to get the 30% off rates.

Will choice treat this act as ‘combining two offers’ and dishonor the free night after two stays?
