The Big Win by IHG Rewards Club: Potentially Lucrative For You — or a Bust?

Effective September 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013, IHG Rewards Club will offer what it bills as its biggest promotion of the year: The Big Win — and it could be lucrative for your frequent guest loyalty program account.

You must register for this promotion in order to participate — and registration is now officially open. The offers are somewhat customized for each IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program member who registers and participates.

You can earn at least 50,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points — especially if you are a new member — with the basic six offers shown below:

  • Try One and Done Stay one time and earn 1,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points
  • Stay More & Earn More Stay four nights and earn 4,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points
  • Explore Our Brands Stay at three different brands of InterContinental Hotels Group and earn 10,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points
  • Book with Us Book two separate stays using either your mobile device or through an official Internet web site of InterContinental Hotels Group and earn 2,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points
  • Win in a Weekend Stay two Saturday nights and earn 8,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points
  • Win Big Complete all five offers and receive 25,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points

…and you could easily complete all five of the above offers with as few as only four stays to collect 50,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points in addition to the ones you would already earn.

FlyerTalk members have been reporting and comparing the offers they have received, which include but are not limited to the following in addition to the aforementioned six offers:

  • Survey the Win Take a survey and receive 100 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points
  • Spend it to Get it Put your stay on your IHG Visa credit card
  • Live the City Life Book two stays at select hotel properties

These additional offers can easily add up to greater than 150,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points — depending on who receives them. Also, some FlyerTalk members report on receiving variations of the basic six offers, with those variations potentially earning them more bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points — although the potential total amount of IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points reported by some FlyerTalk members can be as low as 42,000 IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points.

If your IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program account is set up to earn airline frequent flier loyalty program miles instead of IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points, your basic offer might total up to 12,000 frequent flier loyalty program miles, as at least one FlyerTalk member reports.

One potential problem I do see with this promotion is if you are unable to fulfill one of the offers, then you cannot qualify for the Win Big offer windfall, which requires you to complete all of the other offers you received. In that case, it would appear that the basic offer for 50,000 bonus IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program points could actually be more lucrative. This is one of the reasons which has prompted some FlyerTalk members to believe that this promotion is better for new IHG Rewards Club frequent guest loyalty program members than it is for existing members.

This promotion reminds me of the big Crack the Case promotion from three years ago by what was known then as the Priority Club Rewards frequent guest loyalty program.

Personally, I could do without the changing “splash screen” on the offers “page” — but I did register for this promotion, as it is arguably one of the best promotions offered by a frequent guest loyalty program this year.

Be aware that each offer has its own specific terms and conditions — so please ensure that you read them carefully before participating.

If you have registered for this promotion, what offers did you receive?

    just a quick question .. holiday inn and holiday inn express are they considered different branches ?

    • Brian Cohen at 8:11pm August 27, 2013

      That is an excellent question, djswa007.
      InterContinental Hotels Group claims to have nine brands.
      I count 11 brands when I scroll down.
      If you combine the four Holiday Inn brands as one brand, then I count only eight brands — unless the IHG Rewards Club is considered a “brand”, which then becomes nine brands.
      Bizarre…

    Offers:
    * Survey – 100 points
    * One and Done – 1K
    * 3 weekends – 8K
    * 16 nights – 15K
    * 4 properties – 24K
    * All the others – another 49K
    * Total possible: 97K

    Until last year, I would have thought, “Sixteen nights? Three weekends? Four properties? I’ll do that next MONTH!” Now, though, I’m not sure I can get it done in four months.

    Offers:
    Survey – 100
    One and Done 1 night – 1000
    2 Saturdays – 7200
    Stay more Win more 5 nights – 10100
    2 IHG brands – 18000
    2 Cities – 18000
    Complete all offers – 54000
    Total 108400

    Mine seems totally doable as the 2 city nights include LA, SF, Vancouver, NYC, Denver, all cities that I can visit. 2 brands is also less than what I’ve seen from others. 5 nights is way less than what I’ve seen. Looks like I had a pretty good draw! The only problem is I’m currently based in Asia so I’ll need to find some business trips back to the States in Q4.
