Effective as of July 1, 2013, Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants Group has quietly reduced the period of time in which you may use a coupon for a complimentary room night reward from two years to one year before the coupon expires.

While lauding the generosity of the Kimpton InTouch frequent guest loyalty program and customer service in general, some FlyerTalk members are surprised and irritated that the policy change — perceived as a devaluation — was implemented without warning or public notice.

For coupons towards complimentary room night rewards posted before July 1, 2013, the previous expiration date of two years will be honored.

The coupon for a complimentary room night reward is earned by members of the Kimpton InTouch frequent guest loyalty program who stay seven times or 20 nights.

While it is certainly not a change which can be considered earth-shattering, could the Kimpton InTouch frequent guest loyalty program be starting to adapt the policy of some other frequent travel loyalty programs of implementing without advance notice or warning what can be perceived as a devaluation?

I’m guessing they’ll say they heard from Delta it’s illegal to announce program changes in advance.
