$4 For a Suite on the Second Night at St. Regis Hotel Properties Worldwide — But…

This is part of the Prince Junior Ocean View Suite at the St. Regis Princeville hotel property in Kauai, which you can enjoy for as low as a total of $1,838.89 on the weekend of Friday, August 9, 2013 through Sunday, August 11, 2013. You can stay in a suite on the second night of your stay for only four dollars at a participating St. Regis hotel property worldwide through December 21, 2013 when you stay the first night in that same suite at the retail rate — and, for every two nights for which you pay, the second night will be priced at four United States dollars or the equivalent in local currency, as consecutive reservations will be honored.

However, there are a number of caveats about which you should know before participating in what initially seems like an incredible bargain:

  • The retail rate is apparently the full or “rack” rate — meaning that you are likely not getting much of a bargain — and FlyerTalk members cannot be fooled by the marketing department of Starwood Hotels and Resorts into believing that this promotion is a deal
  • This promotion is for “select” suites at participating hotel and resort properties and not just for any suite at any hotel and resort property
  • The confirmation of your suite reservation will not reflect the discount; that adjustment will be made by staff at the hotel property when you check out — at least, hopefully they will adjust your final bill to reflect that discount
  • The rate of four dollars for a suite for the second night does not include taxes imposed by a government or any additional per room, per night charges which may not be included
  • There may be only a limited number of suites available at the rate of four dollars for the second night
  • Blackout dates and other restrictions may apply
  • This offer is not applicable to groups
  • This offer cannot be combined with other offers or promotions and is subject to change

The rate of four dollars for a suite was the room rate back in 1904 when the first St. Regis hotel opened its doors, as this ongoing promotion — initially launched back in September of 2010 — is designed to celebrate the heritage of St. Regis.

Just out of curiosity, I decided to see what the cost would be for a one-bedroom suite at The St. Regis New York if I checked in on Friday, August 9, 2013 and checked out on Sunday, August 11, 2013. The least-expensive suite I could find was $1,954.00 for that weekend, which may not be too bad for a hotel property located on Fifth Avenue at East 55 Street in New York — until you realize that the total cost of the suite for two nights could be as much as $2,537.43 when all of the taxes and fees are included.

Still — with some due diligence and research on your part — a measurable discount may be secured by you if you are looking into staying in a suite at a brand of hotel properties which purports offering an experience of “contemporary luxury for today’s global traveler.” FlyerTalk member oneworld82 let me know in no uncertain terms in the comments here that the St. Regis cannot even compare to the Four Seasons, as that brand is in “another league” altogether.

For the record, a city-view executive suite for that same weekend in August at the Four Seasons Hotel New York will cost you $4,252.76.

I will pass, thank you.
