FlyerTalk member todorovic recently received an unexpected surprise delivered from the “milestones curator” of the Hyatt Gold Passport frequent guest loyalty program for staying at 50 unique Hyatt Hotels and Resorts properties: a gift of one free award night valid for standard room accommodations to be used at any resort or hotel property within one year before it expires.
According to the terms and conditions, unique hotels visited measured from January 1995 to present, and the member of the Hyatt Gold Passport frequent guest loyalty program must have one eligible stay within the past five years to receive the milestone award.
While some FlyerTalk members are anticipating a similar surprise for staying at 50 or even 100 unique Hyatt Hotels and Resorts properties, other FlyerTalk members report that they have well exceeded the minimum criteria and yet received nothing. Also, it appears that you must apparently have Diamond elite level status to qualify — but this has not been definitively confirmed at this time.
This surprise is known on FlyerTalk as an Easter egg — an intentionally hidden benefit or surprise meant to unexpectedly delight its recipient — similar to the box of chocolates and three free award nights for staying at hotel properties of all nine Starwood Hotels and Resorts brands, which is arguably a superior surprise.
I suppose that calling the version of a surprise that Starwood Hotels and Resorts offers better than the one offered by Hyatt Corporation would be considered unfair. Any unexpected surprise which delights the customer should be welcomed and appreciated, and this is a nice gesture on the part of the Hyatt Gold Passport frequent guest loyalty program.
