A Sweet Surprise For Staying at All Nine Starwood Brands

Before you look at the photograph below, can you name all nine brands of Starwood Hotels & Resorts from memory?

The answer is in the caption in the photograph at the end of this article — if you did not already peek at the “teaser” on the front “home page” of The Gate.

FlyerTalk member cleanfloor recently received an unexpected surprise delivered from the Starwood Preferred Guest frequent guest loyalty program: a box of nine custom chocolates — each in its own individual box with a logo of a Starwood brand printed on the outside of the box — and a card with a note informing cleanfloor of a gift of three free night awards to be used at any resort or hotel property within Category 1 through Category 6 by December 31, 2013.

In response, William Sanders — who is the social media specialist for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and is also known as FlyerTalk member Starwood Lurker as one of the official company representatives for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide — posts the following:

“This is not a promotional offer, but rather a fun recognition item that was meant to surprise members who SPG thinks did something really cool last year. While I am not aware of future plans to repeat this particular item, there will very likely be similar unexpected acts of recognition in the future.”

This surprise is known on FlyerTalk as an Easter egg — an intentionally hidden benefit or surprise meant to unexpectedly delight its recipient — similar to the rides in Porsche automobiles being discretely offered by Delta Air Lines at the international airport in Atlanta.

Have you been the recipient of an “Easter egg’? If so, please post your experience and reaction.

In the meantime, here is the photograph:

A box of chocolates with a card was sent to FlyerTalk member cleanfloor for staying in all nine brands of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide last year, including Westin Hotels & Resorts, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Four Points by Sheraton, Element by Westin, Aloft, Le Meridien, St. Regis, W Hotels and The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts. I have a Starwood Platinum Rewards Card, however I was living out of the country for over 5 years and have not used it. Is it possible to reactivate my card or have I already lost my points and status? Do I have to start from scratch?

    Thank you,

    Michael H.

Unfortunately, you have most likely already lost your Starpoints and status, michaelh51. However, it never hurts to at least call Starwood Preferred Guest and see if they will do anything for you, as you have nothing to lose at this point…
